For what it's worth, I sort of like them for the same reason I like Mercedes. When you get a nice one, it's obvious what you spent the money on. Mine was purchased with the requirements of 'run mac osx, support 4 external displays, wired ethernet, and usb kb/mouse. I have some friends with blown out pc gamer rigs miles better than my macs. Subnautica doesn't really run any better on their computers than it does on mine. I think it's real easy to get past the hardware bottleneck and into the terrain code design problem with this game. They'll eventually get around to it i assume.
I work in IT. Mac quality is about the middle of the pack. It's not bad, but it's not exactly stellar either. Their prices are excessive because the illusion of a premium product is part of their branding. The whole 'It's better because it costs more so fewer people can have it' shtick.
Mac support is awful. The repair prices for Mac products are intended to upsell you on a new unit, no matter how cheap the fix actually is. Damaged port? Need a new motherboard. Nevermind that it's a $0.50 part and 15 minutes of labor to replace just the port, it's part of the motherboard so you have to get a new board and pay the full markup and labor costs. At least they started feeling the pinch from people getting their smashed iPhone screens repaired for $75 at any mall kiosk, and dropped their iPhone screen repair from $300 to $150. The ecosytem is a matter of preference.
